Macon and Buddy
In April 2008 my fiance and I walked into Petco to look at dogs from the Wakulla
county shelter (now CHAT). We were thinking of getting a dog in the near future
but did not expect to get a dog that day. However, when we walked in we saw
Macon (on the left) and instantly fell in love with her. We took her out of the
crate and played with her but did not get her that day. The next day we went out
to the shelter and adopted her. Macon turned out to be the perfect dog for us.
We take her all over the place and she adapts to any situation and is a very
intelligent dog. She seems to understand everything you say to her!
In
January 2010 we went back into Petco to look for toys for Macon and ended up
finding her future brother in the CHAT adoption booth! We saw Buddy (on the
right) in the crate and we fell in love with him. He was sweet and gentle. Again
we decided to sleep on it and went out to the shelter the next day to get him.
Macon and Buddy instantly bonded. They play with each other half the time and
spend the other half of the time curled up together sleeping! When we visit
family members they get more excited about seeing the dogs than seeing us. We
are so happy with both of our dogs and the family would not be the same without
them.
Sincerely, Katrina and Sebastian

Duke
About a month ago I
adopted a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Duke. He is now approximately 9 months old
and doing so well! I can’t tell you how much of a perfect match he is for me. I
have attached some pictures, but have more to come.

Mickey
On September 8, 2009, we put our boxer, Rocky, to sleep after a long
battle with cancer. This was the most painful day of our
lives. We were in NO WAY ready for another dog because we were
grieving the passing of Rocky. My husband and I knew that
eventually we would get another one and I always look on Petfinder.com,
just to read the stories of the dogs that are in need of a loving
home. On September 11, I ran across a handsome black lab/boxer
mix named Solomon. For some reason, Solomon had to come home and
live with us. On an impulse, I drove three hours to look at him
and knew immediately that he was going to be our new baby. Any
other time, I would know that an impulse adoption of a dog is a bad
idea, especially after the loss of a pet. We truly believe that God had
this dog, just for us. We renamed him Mickey (Rocky's trainer in
the Rocky movies -- and it doesn't hurt either that he has big black
ears like Mickey Mouse!!!!) and he has been an
intricate part of our family ever since. My husband, the "big,
bad and strong" Army Sergeant cried when he first met Mickey and the
two of them have been best buddies ever since. We found out
that someone had abandoned him and his brothers and sisters and that's
how he came to the shelter. His whole litter was adopted and
Mickey just hung around -- waiting for US!!! He is in no way a
replacement dog, but an addition that our family was desperately
needing. Right now I am looking at him curled up, sleeping and my heart
is overflowing with love. Petfinder.com helped my husband and me
find our second furry soul mate!

Shelby
Shelby has grown and is now approximately 18.5 pounds, the vet estimates she is
about 3.5 months old and a husky mix. She is a quick learner and is almost
entirely potty trained. She loves to play with her older sister Chloe,
especially tug of war. She loves to chase Chloe around the backyard and pounce
her unexpectedly. Shelby is very vocal and loves to give kisses to both Chloe
and all human friends who come to play with her. She loves dog beds, organic
peanut butter dog cookies and
cuddling. She also loves to take naps in the yard. She's not a huge fan of being
crate trained but we are working on this. Overall she seems so happy with her
new family and we love her as much as she loves us.

Lucy
Moved to Jacksonville with her new family!
We're all having fun with Lucy. We thought you'd enjoy some
photos. JJ's playing soccer now, so he decided Lucy would like to
play too. . . shin guards and all.
The red bow she's wearing was compliments
from her first "grooming" experience, and they said she was a very good
girl! My husband has dug up part of our yard, literally, to plant
a garden. Everyone, but me, is having a blast with it. . playing in dirt, making mud, and digging. . .
Happy Spring!

Rooster
Kujo… Now known as Rooster,
our puppy has adapted well to his new family. Rooster is very affectionate. He
loves to play with me and sleep in my lap. He eats a lot and loves a good walk.
Rooster was adopted from the Wakulla
County Animal Shelter on February
14, 2008. Yes, that’s right, he is my Valentines
Day gift from my parents. He now lives in Tallahassee,
Florida.
We
have basically guessed that his breed is a Bloodhound,
Lab, and German Shepard Mix. You see this when looking at him compared to a
picture of a Lab or bloodhound. He is my baby boy and I love him very much. Rooster
is a special addition to my Family.

Hemi
My name is Hemi. I don't remember much because I was so young, but when
I was 3 months old my family decided that they didn't want me
anymore and left me in an overnight kennel at the shelter. I was
so sad because everything I had known had just changed. I was put in a
kennel with another dog named Kojo. Kojo and I were really good
friends but we didn't have much room toplay. My new mommy and
daddy came to see me about 1 1/2 months after my old family left me.
Mommy says she found me on this website. She said that she fell in love
with me because I was trying to lick the vet in the picture she
saw. After a week my mommy and daddy were able to take me home
but they came and saw me everyday. I love my new family and my new bed!
I have a sister named Cleo. She is A CAT! We look alike too...at least
our fur does!
She was a rescue also. We love to play and when I'm calm she will
come lay down and cuddle with me. I've been with my mommy and daddy for
2 1/ 2 months now and couldn't be happier! Thank you
Petfinder! You found me my forever home! |

Parker
When Pensacola resident, Elisabeth Watson’s dog died, she turned to
Petfinder.com to find a new pet. Little Parker stole her heart. When she arrived
at our adoption center, she learned that he was one of a litter of Lab puppies.
All were adorable. Parker quickly settled in the Watson household but Elisabeth
kept thinking about his siblings. The Watsons have an adult rescue dog and
Parker makes two. A family of three large dogs was not an option but that did
not stop Elisabeth. She remembered that one of her friends had recently lost
their black Lab due to old age. The children in that family were heartbroken
when their dog died. When her friend brought Parker’s sibling, Buddy, home as a
surprise for the children, you can imagine their reaction. And now every
Thursday, Buddy and Parker have a play day—brothers forever!! |

Thor
from Ashlee T. Falco
Thor was adopted from the
Wakulla County Animal Shelter on August 18, 2007. We simply walked into Petco
to buy dog food for our other 2 dogs, but stopped to play with the dogs and cats
as we always did. We have stopped to play with the animals numerous times, but
knew adopting was not an option at the time because of our 2 elderly and
unfortunately, snobby dogs, Lilly and Daisy. However, this time Tony met Thor,
who at the time was being called "Buster". Thor seemed to have eyes only for
Tony. Several people went to try and play with him and he just was not
interested; but, when Tony went over there an instant bond was formed. They
played and played. We sat in Petco for 3 hours trying to decide whether to add
a new family member to our home. I was fine with it, but left the decision to
Tony as I knew he would be primarily his dog. I had the 2 snobby dogs that
ignored all men. Well, after much deliberating Tony decided that Thor was the
dog for him and just could not leave without him. They have been best friends
ever since and we are so happy that we decided to adopt him into our family! I
really don't know what life would be like without Thor! Turns out, Thor is an
American Bulldog/Lab mix. He possibly even has some Great Dane in him. He is
now a healthy 75 lbs and still growing. Thor's favorite things to do now are
play with Tony, go for walks with me, annoy Lilly, play hide-and-seek with his
Kong, roll around in the grass in the back yard, and visit the dog park with his
best dog friend Reagan who lives around the corner. Daisy, unfortunately, passed
away in November 2007 due to a long time battle with Cushing’s syndrome. Even
though Lilly pretends she does not like him, I think he is what helped Lilly get
through her sister and littermate passing. He has truly been a blessing!

Maxie
This little dog by the
name of Maxey was adopted from the Wakulla Animal Shelter by Jude Burk
and David Pasquarelli, CHAT Members. The dog had two broken legs. One
of them is doing well, but the other one was beyond repair and had to
be amputated. It was a four hour operation and the animal lost a lot of
blood. 100 stitches were needed. Maxey had a time of it and was in
considerable pain. There were several sleepless nights for the owners
and the dog. Moments of panic too when the dog looked like she was
going into shock. She did not want to eat or drink. Jude had to put a
spoonful of sugar and a soaked and wrung out paper towel in her mouth
to get some energy into the animal. I am happy to say that Maxey is walking around and eating small amounts of food.
I am sure that all CHAT Members want to thank Jude and David for taking
on this difficult project and expense. Maxey already stole their hearts
and he is one lucky shelter dog. |
