This is the final draft of the proposed animal control ordinance. Look it over. If you have concerns about this, try to be at the County Commission meeting on February 19, 2008.
YOU CAN HELP SAVE AN ANIMAL’S LIFE BY BEING ITS BUDDY Volunteer today to be a BUDDY at the Wakulla Animal Shelter.
With as little as two to three hours a week, for one to two weeks, you can help with the training and socialization that an animal needs in order to become adoptable.
When you become a BUDDY to a dog of your choosing, you receive instruction about how to get your new BUDDY to an adoptable stage by teaching him basic commands and manners. Most of all, you help build his confidence and trust in people, which gets his tail wagging.
Once you and your BUDDY have made some progress, and meet the basic BUDDY criteria, then you are ready for: ADOPTION DAY! You will be encouraged, (though this is not required) to come to adoption day so that you can introduce your BUDDY to folks looking for a new pet, and---okay, let’s admit it---show him off!
It will be both a sad AND happy day when you wave goodbye to your BUDDY, but the satisfaction you will get from knowing that you have helped connect him to a life-saving new home will be a reward that you will keep for the rest of your life.
For more information on how YOU can be a BUDDY at the Wakulla Animal Shelter, call Cathy Sherman at 926-9339.
Two lovely CHAT members are wrapping packages for the benefit of the Wakulla County Animal shelter animals. The wrapping was done on December 1 and December 2, 2007 at the Borders bookstore in Tally by: Nancy Krzycki, Tracie Churchard, Tanny Buford, Beverly (Tanny's friend), Bonnie Surber, Nita, Christy Noftz, Ann Elizabeth Allshouse, Leah Krzycki, Melanie, Susan Yelton Glenda McCarthy, Karen Frazey and Janice Carraway-Eakin. These ladies spent hours wrapping gifts. The proceeds were $260.00. Janice Carraway Eakin and Karen Frazey are in the picture.
On the 10th of November, 2007 the motorcycle, donated by Capital Harley-Davidson in Tallahassee, was raffled off at the Mighty Mullet Festival in Panacea. The lucky winner was Jason Roberts of Crawfordville.
The Homecoming event on Sept. 29, 2007 was a great success. We had a good number of adoptions and like to thank all the volunteers. The veterinarians from the Los Robles Animal Clinic in Tallahassee had a Teddy Bear Clinic set up and we even had a cat psychologist at the event. The kids enjoyed their pony rides, free hot dogs, drinks and balloons. Stuffed animals and other nice items were raffled off and it was fun for all. Here are some of the pictures, taken by Tracie Churchard and her husband.
Our meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday of each month at the animal shelter in our Education Building at 7:00 PM. All members are invited to attend. |
